REDPLAID's Redundant Internet Backbone

REDPLAID's Internet Backbone network consists of multiple redundant Gig-E Internet connections with redundant fiber paths into our building from numerous providers including UUNet (MCI), Level 3, AT&T, Sprint, and Cogent.

REDPLAID utilizes the Border Gateway Protocol Version 4 (BGPv4) to provide full redundancy between our redundant Internet connections. REDPLAID also uses the Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) with full Router redundancy to provide for full redundancy in the event any of our redundant core Cisco routers fail.

Redundant Gigabit Connections To Each Server

REDPLAID's internal network consists of fully redundant Gigabit (1,000 Mbps) switched Ethernet production backbones with redundant Network Interface Cards (NICs) in each server. The NICs are implemented using NIC teaming to each server to allow for automatic failover in the event of network failure. For security purposes, REDPLAID also separates all administrative traffic from production traffic onto a third internal network.
